Scholarships and Grants
To be considered for a College of Education scholarship, continuing students must complete:
- The general UNR scholarship application - Available between November and February 1 in MyNEVADA (go to your Student Center, Supplemental Forms, Scholarship Application)
- Complete the FAFSA to show financial need, as many scholarships include financial need as one criterion of eligibility
APPLICATIONS ARE DUE February 1 for priority consideration (applications can still be submitted after this date)
Priority for scholarships is given to student teaching interns, then HDFS upperclassmen and admitted teaching programs student, then all COE students regardless of major (both merit- and need-based scholarships are available). Graduate students are awarded scholarships through program specific selection processes not connected to this application.
Incoming freshmen are considered automatically through their UNR application for general scholarships. Visit the University's Financial Aid website to find out more.
Northern Nevada English Learning Initiative (NNELI)
This National Professional Development Grant program, fully funded by the Office of English Language Acquisition of the United States Department of Education, provides assistance to selected students to increase their ability to teach English Language Learners. Students in teacher licensure programs at undergraduate level who wish to add an ESL Endorsement onto their license may find further grant application information at http://www.unr.edu/nneli/about.
Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH)
Through the College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007, Congress created this grant program that provides up to $4,000 per year to students who are preparing to teach in a high-needs field in a school that serves low income families. High needs fields are: Math, Science, Foreign Language, and Special Education. Detailed information is available at www.federalstudentaid.ed.gov. The University of Nevada, Reno is a partner school with a designated financial aid officer to assist in the grant process.
