I was born and raised in Bogotá D.C., Colombia. My mother became a widow shortly before I turned three, she raised my four brothers and me by herself. I completed my International Trade studies as full-time student while I was working also full-time. After working in cultural institutions for many years, I taught ESL for local schools and corporations. When I became a widow myself, I made the move to United States with my three children and settled in Las Vegas. I joined the University of Nevada, Reno in 2014.
I have been in the librarianship profession and in cultural affairs management for more than 30 years now. I started in the Luis Angel Arango Library in Bogotá, Colombia, where I also worked in other cultural areas including the Gold Museum and the Cultural Division, as they all were part of the central bank, Banco de la República. In Las Vegas, I joined the Las Vegas Clark County Library District. To further develop my library skills, I completed the program of Library and Information Technology and became the first and only Library Support Staff Certified in Nevada by ALA/APA. I’ve been a Staff Employee’s Council (S.E.C.) representative for Libraries/OIT, serving as the Public Relations Coordinator in the Executive Board and Chair of the Classified Staff Educational Fund, as well as several Diversity Initiatives. I am proud of my service as a Liaison for Alianza in the Executive Board since its foundation in 2017 until 2019.
