Summary

 Languages: English, Spanish

I was born and raised in Reno, Nevada. Both of my parents are Mexican and immigrated to this country in their late teens/early twenties. Being a first-generation student, navigating my way into higher education was a challenge for me. I enrolled at Truckee Meadows Community College upon graduating high school because I didn’t know much about other institutions or where to start. I had to learn about financial aid and scholarships on my own. After a couple years at TMCC, I transferred to the University of Nevada, Reno. At the University I completed my B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies and my M.A. in Educational Leadership. During my time at the University I had the ability to grow as a student and it also sparked my interest to work with students that are transitioning from high school or community college to the University.

I am currently the Coordinator of Academic Success where I help advise, recruit and retain students for the Reynolds School of Journalism. With the support of my mentors and other faculty I was able to get where I wanted to be and now my goal is to continue to help all students and guide them to help achieve their academic goals.
