Using Anywhere Polling
Learn how to conduct a polling session in the classroom using Anywhere Polling.
Anywhere Polling allows users to poll with any application, including web pages, videos and documents, using a floating toolbar.
Anywhere Polling Showbar
Launch the TurningPoint desktop app and click Start now under Anywhere Polling on the Dashboard. The Anywhere Polling Showbar will open and appears at the top right-hand corner of your screen. Below are descriptions of the buttons.
The Open Polling button allows participants to respond to a question. The Close Polling button closes polling and opens the results chart.
The Quick Poll Menu allows you to choose a question type to poll. Except for the first two options (Custom and Multiple Response), a click on any of the question types will let you start polling right away. You will either ask a verbal question to poll, or already have a question on the application you are using.
Responses will keep an active count of the users who have responded to the question.
The Hide Question List button will close the preview of the next question.
The Minimize Showbar button will minimize the Showbar to a smaller floating toolbar.
The Options menu allows you to perform such tasks as saving a session, viewing a question list, changing preferences, etc.
The Show/Hide Chart button toggles the display of the results chart.
The Show/Hide Presentation button toggles the display of the presentation window. Questions and answers from the question list are displayed in the presentation window. If a question list is not loaded, the question number and response choices are displayed.
The Show/Hide Response Display button toggles the display of participant responses in a grid, indicating which participants have responded.
The Show/Hide Connection Info button toggles the Session ID on and off.
The Display Messaging Window button toggles the chat window.
Using Anywhere Polling in Class
Follow these steps for using Anywhere Polling in Class.
Launch the TurningPoint desktop app and click Enable under Mobile Response to generate a session ID.
Next, choose your question list. If you do not yet have a question list, please refer to the Creating a question list in Turning page. Note that if you choose to ask verbal polling questions in class, or if you already have questions written within the application you are using to present, you do not need a question list. Make sure the question list you choose (if applicable) is selected on the Content Panel, then click Start now under Anywhere Polling.
The Anywhere Polling Showbar opens and you will see a preview of the first question on the showbar. This can be turned off by clicking on the Hide Question List button, which looks like an X. Start polling anytime by click on the green Open Polling button.
When polling starts, the question displays in a new window, allowing students to view the question and answer choices. You will see the Response Count when students submit answers. Students can change their answer multiple times when polling is open and the last answer will be recorded. A countdown timer can be added as needed. To stop polling, click on the green Close Polling button. The chart window will open showing the polling results.
You can change the response data value (percentage or count) by clicking on the Response Data View button. The Correct/Incorrect Comparison button allows you to reveal the correct/incorrect answers.
The default chart label is Answer Text. This can be changed to Bullets (e.g., A, B, C, D) by clicking the Options button and selecting Preferences. Please note, however, that the classroom computer will not save your preferences; you will need to change it every time you use it.
Repeat the steps above to poll all the questions. Remember to save the session data after you finish polling.
To save the session data, click the Options button, mouse over Session, and choose Save Session. Enter a new name for the session (or keep the default name) and save it to your external drive. Close the Anywhere Polling Showbar to be brought back to the TurningPoint Dashboard.
