Spring Commencement parking

General parking will be available and free in the Brian J. Whalen and West Stadium Parking Complexes and in the Green lots on the north side of campus during the commencement ceremonies. Public parking areas are designated for use by faculty, graduates, families and guests. The shuttle service will be available two hours prior to each ceremony.

Disabled parking will be available on level 3 of the West Stadium Parking Complex.

Restrooms, first aid and medical services locations

Restrooms for general guests are located in between Ross Hall and Thompson Building, which is West of the University Quadrangle.

First Aid/Medical Services are located south of the Jones Center Building in the Silver 1 parking lot. Limited mobility, disabled, and wheelchair shuttle services drop off areas are located at Morrill Hall (south of the University Quadrangle).

For events held at Lawlor Events Center, all restrooms and medical services will be available in the upper concourse. 

Inclement weather plan

In case of inclement weather for Spring Commencement, the ceremony will be moved to Lawlor Events Center. Faculty, staff and graduates will enter through the Ticket Office entrance. Spectators will enter through the upper-concourse.

Security information


Graduates should leave all personal items at home or with family or friends. Graduates will not return to the same chair they were initially seated in after crossing the stage. Any unattended items in the graduate seating area are left at the owner's risk.  Graduates are prohibited from bringing large bags, coolers, alcoholic beverages, signage and other items that may distract from the ceremony or obstruct the view of others.

All attendees

The following items are not permitted during the Commencement ceremony: coolers or containers, non-service animals, alcoholic beverages, balloons, noisemakers, fireworks or explosives, drones or other unmanned aircraft systems, weapons, and any other items determined to be a potential hazard. For safety reasons, all bags are subject to search. For events inside Lawlor, outside food or beverages, glass and reusable bottles and coffee mugs, such as Hydro Flasks, will also not be allowed inside the venue. Only disposable, sealed plastic water bottles are allowed. Concession stands will be open.
