Anyone who creates content on behalf of the University, including every college, unit, faculty member and employee, is responsible to ensure compliance and is required to remediate. Everyone who creates, edits or publishes online content, including website, blog, video, podcast, social media or email content, is required to complete Basic Web Accessibility Training annually. Anyone who buys software must have it checked for accessibility before the purchase is made. Collected here are resources to help.

Accessibility policy overview

University of Nevada, Reno is committed to diversity and to ensuring that our programs, services and activities are accessible to all. Part of that commitment is seen in our work to conform to accessibility standards, including Title II of the Americans With Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Reauthorized Rehabilitation Act.

The Office of the Provost coordinates and oversees our accessibility with the philosophy that “everyone owns accessibility.” It’s an institution-wide responsibility (Accessibility FAQs).

Accessibility questions & training

Teaching & Learning Technologies (TLT)’s Instructional Design Team (IDT) can be reached at idt@unr.edu or 775-682-6798 for help with accessibility questions and training. Or, visit the TLT workshops and faculty development website.

Basic Web Accessibility Training is available online via WebCampus. To attend in-person accessibility trainings on campus, sign up on the TLT workshops webpage. TLT can accommodate remote and off-campus trainings for groups. Contact Don Massie, instructional technologist with TLT, donmassie@unr.edu or 775-682-5720, to coordinate.

Document remediation for accessibility

The University's contracted vendor for accessibility testing and for document and web content remediation for accessibility is QA InfoTech. For QA InfoTech services, rates and work requests, visit the Accessibility remediation with QA InfoTech webpage.

Web accessibility liaisons

Each college has a web accessibility liaison. Ashley Andrews (anandrews@unr.edu) is Extension’s, and Robert Moore (rmoore@cabnr.unr.edu) is CABNR’s.

Ashley and Robert are responsible for being up-to-date on University policy and procedures related to accessibility, being knowledgeable on how to direct users on how to get the technical assistance they require, maintaining a registry of all websites within the college/division that are used for official academic or business activities, monitoring accessibility compliance of registry websites, and reporting the registry to the ICT Accessibility Committee (web accessibility liaisons).
