The Accounting Department Advisory Board serves as a bridge between the Department and the business community, offering advice, collaboration and support to enhance the mission of the Department. The Accounting Department is dedicated to developing and sustaining long-term relationships with members of the business community to ensure the ongoing relevancy and vitality of our programs.
Mission and Objectives
The mission of the Accounting Department Advisory Board is to enable an effective partnership between the business community and the Department. This mission will be accomplished by:
- Promoting the visibility of the department in the business community. Accounting Department Advisory Board members will serve as effective advocates for the programs, students, and faculty of the Department.
- Providing guidance and advice to develop and continuously improve a relevant accounting curriculum.
- Promoting and personally participating in the financial development efforts of the Department to help improve and sustain funding sources.
- Assisting in the identification and recruitment of the best and the brightest students to the Department.
- Helping ensure that Accounting Department graduates have good professional opportunities available upon graduation.
- Supporting ongoing faculty development. This includes enhancing the level and type of collaboration between Accounting Department faculty and the business community.

Managing Director, Director of Tax Services
Leslie C. Daane is Barnard Vogler & Co.'s Managing Director and Director of Tax Services. With over twenty years experience in public accounting, Leslie has provided a full range of audit, tax and consulting services to a wide variety of clients in various industries. Leslie currently concentrates in the areas of income and estate taxation, dealing with both compliance and planning. She provides technical research and consulting assistance on a wide range of tax and management issues.
Leslie graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. She is a certified public accountant licensed to practice in Nevada, and is a member of the Nevada Society of Certified Public Accountants (NVCPA) and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
Leslie's community involvement has included a term on the State Board of Equalization, President of a private school board, and board member of various charitable organizations. She is a past President of the Estate Planning Council of Northern Nevada
Candace F. Borrego

Director, Senior Portfolio Manager
Candace Borrego is a Director and senior portfolio manager for the Wells Fargo Gaming Division, a part of the Corporate Banking Group. She is responsible for developing and maintaining client relationships in a wide variety of industry segments, including hotel/casinos, water-based casinos, racinos, fuelcinos, card rooms, and Native American gaming enterprises.
Candace joined Wells Fargo in 1998, as a senior analyst for the gaming/regional commercial banking office (RCBO). She spent over seven years with the gaming/RCBO prior to leaving the company to co-found West Haven Development Group with her husband. In 2010, Candance returned to Wells Fargo to assume her current position.
Before joining Wells Fargo in 1998, Candace spent time as an accountant at Deloitte & Touche in both the audit and tax practices.
Active in her community, Candace has served for over a decade in various leadership roles for the board of directors for STEP2, a nonprofit organization that provides comprehensive substance abuse treatment to women and women with children suffering from chemical addition, poverty, and domestic violence, and is a member of the advisory board for the University of Nevada, Reno School of Business Accounting Department.
Candace holds a B.S. in business administration with a concentration in accounting from the University of Nevada, Reno. She also holds her Series 79 and Series 63 licenses.
Todd Ferguson, CPA

As a shareholder in the firm, Todd Ferguson specializes in tax planning and preparation for corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships, estates, trusts, and individuals. He also provides accounting and auditing services to a number of commercial entities with an emphasis in the gaming industry. Todd has been with the Firm since 1985 and is a licensed CPA in the State of Nevada. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Nevada, Reno with a major emphasis in accounting.
He also holds a Master of Science degree in Taxation from Golden Gate University. Todd is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Nevada Society of Certified Public Accountants. Todd has served as a board member and coach for the Reno Continental Little League and South Reno Babe Ruth and is a member of the Athletics Association of the University of Nevada, Reno.
RSM US LLP
Chad provides financial and compliance audit and consultation services to a variety of private and public entities, with an emphasis on the gaming industry. Chad has practiced public accounting for more than 13 years and joined RSM US in October of 2012, bringing a background in accounting standards generally accepted in the United States of America (US GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
Chad has a thorough understanding of internal controls over financial reporting and has extensive experience consulting with clients regarding the appropriate accounting treatment in areas such as revenue recognition, business acquisitions/dispositions, asset valuations, retirement obligations, debt and equity financing, derivatives, equity-based compensation and related party transitions. In addition, Chad has been involved in various due diligence projects. Chad is also a continuing professional education instructor for the firm and a member of our national interoffice review team providing reviews of engagements to other offices throughout the firm.
In his prior role, Chad worked for Caesars Entertainment Corp., formally Harrah's Entertainment Corp., in the Reporting Policy Department. His responsibilities included researching complex accounting topics, preparing impairment analysis, preparing statutory financial statements in accordance with IFRS and determining consolidation of variable interest entities.
George Metkovich, CPA
George became a partner in 2012 after joining the firm 2010 as a manager. George began his career at one of the world’s largest gaming corporations as an internal auditor where he performed operational and compliance audits of casinos located in Reno and South Lake Tahoe along with Indian casinos located in Arizona and Kansas. He later moved to public accounting and joined a national firm, ultimately serving as the firm’s audit manager. He conducted compliance and financial audits of gaming establishments throughout Nevada, Indian casinos throughout California, and casinos in New Jersey and Puerto Rico. Additionally, George was responsible for training new audit associates and the annual training of all audit professionals. He has performed audits in areas of manufacturing and distribution, health care, employee benefit plans, not-for-profit, and government. As financial statement audit partner, George is responsible for the financial and compliance audits of benefit plans and casinos. He also performs and manages internal audits and Title 31 compliance audits for many of our casino clients. George has instructed seminars on compliance issues and provides leadership to our younger staff and helps them develop technical and personal skills.
George holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Nevada, Reno, and is affiliated with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Nevada Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Lauren Sankovich, CPA

Partner - Audit Department Head
Lauren provides years of experience to Eide Bailly clients in a variety of industries and types such as gaming, construction, family-owned small to mid-sized entities, employee benefit plans of all sizes, nonprofits and professionals like doctors, dentists, attorneys, and engineers. She practices accounting, auditing and tax and engages in consulting services with corporations, partnerships, LLCs, as well as to individual clients.
Lauren brings experience and knowledge to every client. Her goal is to provide clients with competent, responsive, timely service that lessens the stress of dealing with filing deadlines and compliance related issues so her clients can focus on what they do best, running their business.
Outside of the office, Lauren enjoys spending time with her two young boys, attending their sport-related activities, being involved in their school, camping, spending time outdoors and attending many of the family and sports-related events that the University of Nevada, Reno has to offer.
