The Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology provides students with an in-depth understanding of the molecules of life. You will learn how genes are organized and how the cell and organism control gene expression. You will also learn how proteins (which are the products of genes0 are made and how they functions, individually and as part of complex metabolic pathways. Students can choose to major or minor in this discipline.
This major offers excellent preparation for students wishing to attend medical, dental, or pharmacy school and for careers in biomedical research or biotechnology.
Extensive research opportunities in university labs are provided as all seniors spend two semesters working part time in a lab as a part of their senior research project. This prepares students for a variety of careers such as:
- Biomedical Research
- Pharmaceutical Representative
- Forensic Scientist
- Laboratory Research Scientist
- Physical Therapist
- Physician Assistant
- PhD Laboratory Scientist
The department curriculum is diverse and includes:
- Metabolic Regulation
- Biochemical Analysis
- Advanced Molecular Biology
- Molecular Biophysics
- Advanced Biochemistry
