Biography: I am a second year MA student in cultural and linguistic anthropology. The broad purpose of my research is to examine language practices and ideologies in the classroom. I want to explore how language is used by Latinx students classified as English learners (ELs) to construct a sense of self as well as to forge and maintain cultural ties. I am also concerned with questions of language standardization, neoliberal discourses of diversity, and marginalization of minoritized communities.
