Thompson Building
<p><span>This Georgian-style building, designed by Reno architect Frederick De Longchamps, was built in 1920 to house the university's "teacher training" program. In 1959, the building was named to honor Dr. Reuben C. Thompson, who taught at the university from 1908 to 1948, and founded the Department of Philosophy. The building houses the Core Humanities; Gender, Race, and Identity program; and the Department of Political Science.</span></p>

<p>Lydia Huerta is an assistant professor of gender, race, and identity at the University of Nevada, Reno. Huerta specializes in 20th and 21st century cultural studies of the Americas, with an emphasis on the relationship between social media and narratives about the U.S./Mexico border. Her primary research examines the cultural production created in response to the women-killings in Ciudad Juárez since 1993. Other research interests focus on social movements, cultural narratives and public policies created in the United States and Mexico, which call attention to issues related to undocumented populations, specifically, women and LGBTQ migrants.</p>
