Yes, our consultations are free as long as you are a student at the University of Nevada, Reno. Every student at the University pays an academic support fee which supports our operations, alongside other supplemental services on campus (Math Center, Tutoring Center, etc).
We are located in the Pennington Student Achievement Center, Suite 350. Please feel free to stop by and visit our new space.
Please feel free to call us at (775) 784-6030 if you need additional information.
The University Writing Center conducts over 2,000 sessions a semester. While we do our best to see every student who drops-in, appointments are recommended. We see our biggest demand during midterms and finals, so plan accordingly.
Depending on the project, students can schedule either a half-hour or an hour session. We recommend that all papers over three pages long be scheduled for an hour session. Many writing projects may require and/or benefit from scheduling multiple sessions with a consultant.
You can book an appointment by going to our home page and clicking on the "Make an Appointment" link. You will then see the login page for our online scheduler. Returning users can login with their email address and password. First-time users will need to register with our system. Click on the "First Visit?" link on the login page and fill out the registration form.
You can also give us a call at (775) 784-6030, and we can schedule an appointment over the phone for you.
We are open Monday through Thursday from 8:00am-9:00pm, Friday 8:00am-5:00pm and Sunday 2:00pm-9:00pm in the Pennington Student Achievement Center.
The Writing Center now has a walk-in writing lab available during all open hours.
Our office staff is available at Pennington Student Achievement Center from 8:00am-5:00pm Monday - Friday to assist with appointment coordination and questions.
Please feel free to call us at (775) 784-6030 with any concerns during this time.
The University Writing Center is a student consultative service that focuses exclusively on student writing. We help students with any writing project they are working on, including non-academic papers and resumes. Students may visit us at any point in the writing process and talk with a consultant about their work.
We are an academic support center that focuses on student writing. Our mission at the Writing Center is to build a community of writers. That being said, we are not a drop off editing service. All students who visit the University Writing Center are expected to participate in the consultation. If you have additional questions regarding these policies, please contact us at (775) 784-6030.
I’m having trouble with an assignment. Is it possible to book an appointment with someone who specializes in a particular subject matter?
Yes. Bios from all of our consultants are posted on our website and on our online scheduler. To view a bio on the schedule, click on an available appointment block on our scheduler. A confirmation window will pop up and you will see a short description of the consultant and their strengths/weaknesses.
If you have additional questions about which consultant would be best for your academic needs, please give us a call at 784-6030, and we will be happy to assist you.
