Dr. Jill Heaton Deciding to apply for a position in the Department of Geography at the University of Nevada was easy. The departments focus and my research interest were a perfect match—arid and mountain lands geography. Deciding to accept the position in Geography at UNR was also easy. First, the Department values teaching—we have won more teaching awards than all other College of Science departments combined. Second, the support and collegiality within the Department and across the campus as a whole is amazing. And finally, I saw in Geography a dynamic, growing program with recent new hires, more hires in the near future, a commitment to research, a new Ph.D. program and an expanding undergraduate and graduate population.

Ariel L PhotoI came to this country from Cuba ten years ago and I have been living in Reno, Nevada for eight years. I have been working for more than seven years for the University of Nevada, Reno in the Facilities Services Department. Starting as an Architectural Drafter, six year later I became a Construction Project Coordinator. I feel lucky to work in this institution. First, I had the opportunity to revalidate my Architectural Bachelor degree during my first four years while working for this institution. Second, we have good benefits and nice medical insurance. Moreover, the atmosphere in our Department is great, filled with lots of happiness, positive energy and camaraderie . I like this job, so I have no doubt I’m going to be retiring in this place.

It's not every campus where a faculty member can look down the hallway to the open doors of colleagues who are mutually supportive. And then look out the window to the snow-capped peaks of the Sierras. A special place indeed.

Stephanie Neill PhotoI have been a State employee since 1988, transferred to campus in 1998. I noted the first benefit of working at UNR is the incredible beauty of the campus itself. Then there are the people. Through networking, I have had the fortunate opportunity to meet a vast number of fellow employees in the performance of my duties. Requesting information from another office on campus is akin to calling a friend for advice. Help is out there. We also have a great deal of fun in our office while conducting business. Fostering this type of environment has made for a truly productive team. That team extends across campus.

Maureen KilkennyI came to the University of Nevada because the Resource Economics department faculty in the College of Agriculture are some of the best researchers in the world.  They are well-known and moreover, they are a real pleasure to work with.

Ray Bretz PhotoI enjoy working here because of the great team work spirit within the trades departments of Buildings and Grounds. I have worked with each trades department over the years and all of them, without exception, go out of their way to work together and get whatever task is to be completed accomplished with a positive attitude. You can advance and go as far as you choose if you are willing to work hard and work with the other members of the Buildings and Grounds departments. Some days it is not easy getting any task done with the growth that is occurring, but with the team effort that all of my coworker's exhibit it is a challenging and exciting place to work. You never know what challenge will come your way next. If you are looking for a dull, laid back job, then UNR is not the place for you. If you want a challenging job and a job that makes you think on the go, working with good people then without a doubt UNR is the right place to be.
