Resources for Job Seeking Spouse/Dependents
The area surrounding University of Nevada, Reno includes Reno, Sparks, Carson City and Truckee, California to name a few. There is steady job growth and strong demand for employees in all industries. Magazine ranks Reno-Sparks as the fifth best mid-size market to do business in its 2006 “Hottest Cities for Doing Business” list. A few industries are highlighted below:
Distribution
Geographically situated as a central hub for distribution to the west coast and with a very favorable tax structure to businesses, many of the nation’s major retailers have a presence in Northern Nevada. These businesses include large warehouses for Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, Kmart, JCPenney, Starbucks Roasting Plant and several third party distribution companies.
Financial Services
A favorable tax structure and proximity to California have lead many companies to house financial-related operations in the area. Intuit, Harley Davidson Financial Services, Microsoft Licensing, Oracle, Cisco, Charles Schwab and many others have decided that Nevada is good for business.
Technology
Led by the flagship of the gaming industry, International Game Technology, and a host of others, many technology companies make Northern Nevada their home. From military aerospace to PC diagnostics, these companies have chosen to be in Northern Nevada to provide a high quality of life for their employees.
Healthcare
Four hospitals and the University of Nevada School of Medicine serve Northeastern California and all of Northern Nevada. The region offers excellent healthcare options and employment in the industry.
