ADMINISTRATIVE TRAINING

The following list of learning opportunities are provided through our office at no cost to you and are held at Getchell Library. Please see our Training Calendar for upcoming dates and times.

B.C.I.S. Form I-9

In this free workshop, you will learn how to process the Form I-9 according to the guidelines established by the US Citizenship and Immigration services (USCIS). As a result of attending, you should be familiar with:

Classified Leave Record Keeping

Part one in a two part series, which explores the basics of classified leave keeping. Attendees will learn about annual leave, sick leave, prorating, banking and many other important topics. This is a great resource for any employee new to classified leave keeping or for those looking for a refresher course.

Objectives:

NOTE:  A calculator, highlighter, pencil and scratch paper will be provided for you to use for the leave keeping exercises.

Comprehensive Position List

As occurred in 2005-2006, all classified and professional, regardless of the source of funds, will be budgeted as they are actually expected to be paid in the position lists. The comprehensive position list data will be used by Faculty Human Resources to generate all faculty PAF paylines for July 1, 2006 through June 30, 2007. Position lists will be distributed electronically rather than in a hard copy and will allow for various start and stop dates for account changes throughout the year.

EAP Supervisory Training

The system office and SCS north will be providing training on February 21, 2006 at the UNR campus site. (For Supervisors only.)

The supervisory training will consist of the following topics: Introduction; Basic features of our Employee Assistance Program; Types of referrals; Difficulties in Confronting Problem employees; and Five Steps to deal with the Troubled Employee followed by a question and answer period.

Ergonomics Training

The objective of the office ergonomics training is to assist employees with improving their comfort while working at their computer.  This will be accomplished by explaining the basic principles of office ergonomics and by providing information on how to properly set up and adjust a computer workstation. 

General University Accounting

Participants will learn how to process the necessary forms required to use for "General University accounting". Learning objectives are as follows:

How to Prepare a Self Supporting Budget

This class will cover how to build a self supporting budget (Not for sponsored project accounts) now that all professional and classified positions are budgeted using the comprehensive position lists. Summarized salary information for professionals  and classifieds will be available in a CAIS Human Resources Look up information report which will be developed and published by March 1rst. This class will also cover  how to prepare budget revisions and how to use the new "fringe and salary calculator" on the budget website.

New Notary Training

This one day workshop is for "New Notaries" this is not a refresher. You will have the understanding of basics notarizations. There will be a minimal fee of $20.00 per person. You will receive an invoice in campus mail. Please pay with University Purchasing card.

PaymentNet Training

A must class for everyone who has responsibility for charges and transactions to or edits the University Purchasing Card (Pcard) Mastercard. This is a step-by step tutorial on the PaymentNet system.

Before you attend the class you must establish your UNR NetID and password.

Postdoctoral Scholar Contracts

Participants will learn how to process the necessary forms according to the established guidelines with various university entities and UNR Human Resources for Postdoctoral Scholars. The learning objectives are as follows:

Professional Employee Leave Keeping

This class is part one in a part two series, which explores the basics of leave keeping for academic and administrative faculty as well as postdoctoral scholars. Attendees will learn the types of of leave available as well as an overview of leave accruals for faculty on an "A" or "B" contracts and postdoctoral scholars.

This training is recommended for any employee new to professional leave keeping or for those looking for a refresher course.

Preparing Hiring Documents for a Student Employee

Using the Campus Administrative Information System (CAIS)

Use this new Web-based accounting system to perform inquiries and reports online.  This class is intended for all who have to work with departmental accounts.  While attending this free workshop, you will:

Using Custom Inquiries in CAIS

This workshop is for those who are already comfortable with using CAIS, spreadsheets, and/or databases.  This class will help you further your understanding of CAIS and how to customize queries and simplify repetitive tasks.   As a result of attending, you will be able to:

Suggestion:  To get the most of this learning opportunities, it is recommended you bring some questions and examples where you would like to get customized data for your department.

Prerequisite:  Attendees should be proficient with using CAIS as well as a Windows-based spreadsheet and/or database application.

Using Degree Audit Reports in Advising (DARS)

Learn how to use a DARS report to increase the efficiency of the advising process. DARS must read "All Requirements Complete" before a degree will be posted.

Note: Participants need access to the Student Information System (SIS).
