Classified Reclassification and Conversion

For full explanation of how this information is to be used click here and read the disclaimer.

Classified reclassifications are deemed necessary when it has been determined that the duties of a position no longer align with the class specification for the given position.

Determinations are made by way of the reclassification process, which requires the completion and submission of a “Position Questionnaire (NPD-19)” and an “Employment Requisition (VPAF-202)” to Business Center North Human Resources in order to initiate the process.  An employee, whose position is reclassified, resulting in a one grade change is eligible for a pay increase equivalent to a one step increase in their former grade.  An employee, whose position is reclassified, resulting in a two grade change or more is compensated in the new grade at the step which is equivalent to a two step increase in their former grade or step 1 in the new grade, whichever is lower in pay.  For more information on contribution factors to promotion pay please refer to NAC 284.134, NAC 284.170 and NAC 284.182 or contact Business Center North at 775-784-6844.

If duties and responsibilities of a position are no longer able to be accommodated in the Nevada State Classified System a hiring authority may request a conversion of the position from Classified to Administrative Faculty.  The process of requesting a conversion from Classified to Administrative is described in Instructions to fill out a Position Description Questionnaire (PDQ).
