Nonresident alien (NRA) student workers are strongly encouraged to register for a New Nonresident Alien Employee Orientation offered through PD&T (WEB) as soon as they are offered a position with UNR. U.S. taxation is a cumbersome subject matter for most non-English speakers, and our Office is here to provide assistance.
NRA student workers are required to brining in the following documents to their initial appointments:- Passport(s);
- Visa stamp(s);
- I-94;
- DS-2019 or I-20, depending on the visa type;
- Social Security Card (or, the Social Security Number application receipt letter, if the NRA has just applied for one); and
- Employment Authorization Document (EAD) card, when applicable.
- Copy of all documents listed above.
During the orientation, we will prepare all appropriate and necessary tax related forms, including but not limited to, W-4, W-8BEN, W-9, 8233, and FNIS Data Sheet, depending upon the individuals’ situation.
Note: It is highly recommended that departments process NRA employees' paperwork with a SINGLE-ZERO W-4 (SAMPLE) without waiting for new NRA employees to sign up for a New NRA Employee Orientation (WEB). It will help facilitate processing new hire paperwork and prevent further delays.
