You're standing near the north end of the quad in early April of
1997. The elm trees are sprouting new leaves. In front of you is the
statue of John Mackay, with Mackay Mines Building behind him. To the
right, behind the mines building, is Scrugham Engineering. Then, as
you continue looking to your right, you see the Laxalt Mineral
Engineering Building and, almost obscured by the trees, Mackay
Science Hall. At the far end of the quad is Morrill Hall, the oldest
building on the campus, built in 1885-86. Obscured by the trees to
the right of Morrill Hall is the Jones Visitor Center. The
two-storied, flat-roofed building you can see behind the trees is
Ross Hall, which houses the university's business offices. In the
distance between Ross and Mackay Mines, as you complete the circle,
are the Thompson Student Services Building and Getchell Library.
