A Virtual Visit

Make a "virtual visit" to the University of Nevada, Reno campus! You'll need a Quick-time Virtual Reality plug-in for your browser, as well as a current version of Quicktime, in order to view these panoramic photographs. If you don't have these, you can download them free from Apple Computer Corporation's Quicktime download page. Just click on the icon below:

QTVR panoramas are created by shooting multiple pictures while rotating the camera, then assembling them with Quicktime software. Historical panoramas were created by shooting multiple photographs of original photographs taken with a panoramic camera. Current pictures are "full circle" -- 360 degrees -- while historical panoramas cover 180 to 270 degrees.

After the QTVR "movie" has loaded, place the cursor on the picture and hold the mouse button down while moving the cursor. The picture will move, enabling you to "look around." You may use the "Alt" ("Option" on Macs) and "Control" keys to zoom in and out.

The QTVR panoramas for the Virtual Visit were prepared by Jon Gubman, graduate student. The 1997 photographs were taken by Joe Gosen, instructor of photojournalism for the Reynolds School of Journalism. Virtual Visit is a project of the New Media Center, Reynolds School of Journalism. The project was led by the Center's director, Braddlee, Ph.D. Our thanks to Karen Gash, University Archivist, for providing the historic panoramic photographs and assistance in dating them.
