You're standing at the west end of the platform, which is in front
of Mackay Mines at the north end of the Quad. President Joseph
Crowley is addressing a crowd of several thousand. Two thousand,
one-hundred and twenty-one are graduating on this day: May 17, 1997.
The two people seated in front of the platform are photographers. As
you look to your right, the graduates closest to you are candidates
for doctoral degrees, holding their hoods in their laps. They'll be
hooded by their faculty advisers, on the platform, as their names are
called. You can see Morrill Hall at the far (south) end of the Quad.
Swinging on around, you see a platform with empty chairs. The
orchestra is taking a break after playing the opening music. Just
ignore that man behind the flags. You can see a bit of Mackay Mines
Building behind him.
