This page provides information regarding GI Bill benefits during regular Fall and Spring semesters, Wintermester, and Summer Sessions. As you calculate your enrollment approximation please keep in mind that these calculation tables are only for reference and the VA will always make the final determination.
Fall and Spring semesters here at the University of Nevada, Reno are typically 17 weeks long. The equivalent undergraduate enrollment for either Fall or Spring can be easily determined by using the first two columns from the table below. See below for graduate student enrollment.

* Undergraduate Semester Hours Per Term
The VA pays education benefits for nonstandard undergraduate enrollment periods based on credit equivalents. The school will report the actual number of credits and the beginning and ending dates of the nonstandard term. When enrollment periods overlap, credit hour equivalents for the period of overlap are combined. The number of weeks for each of our Summer sessions is noted in the following table.
| Standard Summer Terms | Weeks |
|---|---|
| Mini Term | 3 Weeks |
| First Term | 5 Weeks |
| Second Term | 5 Weeks |
Using the formula below, you will be able to determine the undergraduate Summer enrollment equivalency for each of the Summer sessions.
Credit x 18 ÷ weeks = credit hour equivalent. Four semester credits earned in 4 weeks is the equivalent of 18 credits earned during a standard semester (4 x 18 ÷ 4 = 18) and will pay full-time for 4 weeks. When enrollment periods overlap, credit hour equivalents for the period of overlap are combined.
| Summer Term | Credits Taken | x | Weeks in regular semester | ÷ | Summer Term Weeks | = | Credit Hour Equivalents | Enrollment Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mini Term | 3 | x | 18 | ÷ | 3 | = | 18 | Full Time |
| 1st Term | 4 | x | 18 | ÷ | 5 | = | 14.4 | Full Time |
| 1st Term | 3 | x | 18 | ÷ | 5 | = | 10.8 | 3/4 Time |
| 2nd Term | 4 | x | 18 | ÷ | 5 | = | 14.4 | Full Time |
| 2nd Term | 3 | x | 18 | ÷ | 5 | = | 10.8 | 3/4 Time |
Please remember that these calculation tables are for reference only. The VA will make the final calculation and determination.
The VA does not establish any criteria for Graduate Students and leaves it up to the University to determine enrollment status. The University of Nevada, Reno has adopted and conforms to the Department of Education Standards of enrollment for any type of Federal Financial Aid. Please note the Graduate Semester Equivalency Table below to determine enrollment status for graduate students.
