2009-2010 ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP

WHO? The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) especially encourages broad participation including students from community colleges, women, underrepresented racial/ethnic minorities (Hispanic/Latino; American Indian or Alaskan Native; Black or African American, and Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander), people with disabilities and first-generation/low socioeconomic status students to respond to this solicitation.
Currently enrolled undergraduate students interested in receiving funding to do Climate Change research in a wide range of disciplines including (but not limited to) Biology, Civil Engineering, Climatology, Computer Science, Ecology, Education, Environmental Studies, Geography, Hydrology, Journalism, Natural Resources, and Political Science.
“In addition, limited funding will be available to fund projects not related to climate change for undergraduate students majoring in science, technology, mathematics, engineering, or students majoring in education and specializing in teaching K-12.”
WHAT? NSF EPSCoR Undergraduate Research Scholarships for the period November 2009 through May 2010 ($3900 for student, $400 for faculty mentor)
WHERE? At UNLV, UNR, or DRI to conduct a research project with faculty mentors
WHEN? APPLICATIONS BEING RECEIVED NOW THROUGH OCTOBER 9, 2009. The program runs from November 2009 through May 2010.
WHY? To provide scholarship funding to students interested in research. Climate Change topics are to measure environmental changes, develop climate models, translate climate change science for decision makers, create computer systems, or to develop new ways to teach about climate change.
- Successful students will be selected in a merit based process and will participate in this program with a self-selected faculty mentor at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) or the Desert Research Institute (DRI).
- Eligible students are encouraged to apply as early as possible due to the deadline of October 9, 2009.
- Eligible students must attend an educational institute in Nevada including:
UNLV, UNR, CSN, GBC,TMCC, NSC, Sierra Nevada College, or WNC - Those students from groups who are traditionally underrepresented in these fields are strongly encouraged to apply to this program.
