Research Opportunities:

2010-2011 General Undergraduate Research Award

The Office of Undergraduate Research is pleased to accept proposals from undergraduate students in any discipline to fund student academic research or creative studies under the direction of a faculty mentor.  The study must be completed during the 2010-2011 academic year.  Up to $1,200 per grant may be requested.  The project should be planned in close collaboration with a faculty mentor.

Deadline: Monday, March 8, 2010

Scholarship amount: up to $1200 for students

Award Period:  June 1, 2010 – May 31, 2011

 

2010 EPSCoR Summer Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP)

Program: The NSHE announces the 2010 Summer UROP Scholarship program to promote undergraduate research in all NSHE institutions. The program is supported by funding from Nevada’s NSF EPSCoR Climate Change Program and the State of Nevada.  Students in any major are eligible, but at least 50% of the proposals will be funded for research focused on climate change. 

The proposals must be original and written by the scholarship applicant.  The research must be conducted during Summer 2010, under the guidance of a NSHE faculty mentor. Community College students must have a co-mentor at DRI, UNLV, or UNR in addition to a mentor from the Community College. Scholarships will provide $4500 per student awardee and $1000 to the faculty mentor overseeing the project to cover research expenses.

Research Experience for Undergraduates:
From Lake Tahoe to Pyramid Lake

The Academy for the Environment, facilitating student involvement in environmental research and education at UNR, and the Great Basin Institute, an environmental research, education and conservation organization, invites applications for the Summer 2010 REU program in natural resources – conservation and socioeconomic issues, sponsored by the National Science Foundation.

The program will take place during the ten consecutive weeks of 7 June through 13 August 2010. Review of applications will begin on March 8, 2010. Applications received after this date will be considered on a space-available basis.

2009-2010 General Undergraduate Research Award
The Office of Undergraduate Research provides competitive grants available to all UNR undergraduates under the General Undergraduate Research Awards (GURA). All undergraduate students regardless of the field of study and class standing are eligible to submit a proposal. GURA grant proposals are solicited annually in spring semester and students are allowed up to one year to complete the project. Recipient List.

NSF EPSCOR Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program 2009 Summer Award
Nevada National Science Foundation EPSCoR has awarded scholarships to 16 students to conduct research this summer. Supported by funding from Nevada's NSF EPSCoR Climate Change Program and the State of Nevada, the Undergraduate Research Opportunity solicitation targeted students majoring in science, technology, engineering, math, education, or journalism with a focus on teaching or communicating K-12 science or technology.
