Get Help With All Your Writing Needs!

Effective writing is an essential component of practically any university major, and it is a valuable tool you will use for the rest of your life. The TRiO Scholars Program offers writing assistance for classes across the curriculum. Take advantage of our tutoring in writing by making an appointment or sending us your paper on-line.

The writing tutor on staff, Heather Penrod, can help you with almost all of your writing needs.

With What Classes Can I Get Assistance?

You can get one-on-one assistance with writing skills across the curriculum. Feel free to bring in your writing from any course—English, Core Humanities, History, Journalism, Education, Science, etc. You can also bring in your technical documents—resumes, CVs, scholarship applications, personal statements, or cover letters. You can get help with just about any project that requires writing.

When Should I Get Help?

You can receive tutoring during any point of the writing process—brainstorming, pre-writing, drafting, or revision. So don't feel as if you can only bring in finished papers; you can get assistance brainstorming for papers as well. You can also get assistance with grammar and punctuation issues. Need assistance with MLA or APA documentation? We can help! TRiO tutoring can assist you with the issues surrounding citation and plagiarism.

How Can I Schedule An Appointment?

You can schedule appointments as you need them throughout the semester, or you can set up regular weekly or monthly appointments. Although walk-ins are welcome, it's a good idea to call or come in to schedule an appointment. You can call the TRiO office (775) 784-6044 or Heather's direct line (775) 682-8789. If you are unable to get an appointment because the schedule is full, you can even e-mail your papers to Heather and receive help over the internet!

How Long Is An Appointment?

For a 1 to 3 page paper, it is appropriate to schedule a 30 minute appointment. For longer papers, or if you feel you will need extra assistance, you'll want to schedule an hour long appointment.

When you come for your appointment, be sure to bring a copy of the assignment!

If time is of the essence, and you can't get an appointment with Heather due to scheduling conflicts or high appointment volume, the University of Nevada, Reno Writing Center is available as well.
