Organization and Leadership
Founded as Nevada's land-grant institution, the University of Nevada, Reno is one of eight institutions within the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) which is governed by a 13-member Board of Regents and coordinated by the chancellor's office. Elected to serve a six-year term, the 13 Regents set policies and approve budgets for Nevada's entire public system of higher education: four community colleges, one state college, two universities and one research institute.
The president of the university is the chief executive officer, assisted by an executive vice president and provost, and vice presidents for administration and finance, development and alumni relations, information technology, research, student services and marketing and communication.
There are 12 academic deans and a vice provost for extended studies. Organizations that participate in decision-making include the Faculty Senate, President's Council and Staff Employees Council, as well as a number of campus boards and committees.
Students participate through the Associated Students of the University of Nevada (ASUN), the Graduate Student Association (GSA), Non-Traditional Student Union and representation on campus boards and committees.
