The university is an integral part of the thriving Reno-Sparks area. Beyond the university, the Reno-Sparks area provides an attractive natural setting. Bounded on the west by the majestic Sierra Nevada range and on the east by the rolling basin and range province, the Reno-Sparks area offers a comfortable climate. Marked by generally cool and dry weather, the area is a haven for those who love the four seasons.

The university campus is four blocks north of downtown Reno. Its Truckee Meadows location makes it a dynamic part of a northwestern Nevada region of more than 525,000 people. The university is nestled in the Sierra Nevada foothills, just a 45-minute drive from scenic Lake Tahoe. The San Francisco Bay area is within a four-hour drive on Interstate 80. Las Vegas and Los Angeles are a day's drive away, via U.S. 95 and 395, respectively. Area population: The population of the six counties of northwestern Nevada is approximately 526,000. Elevation: 4,600 feet. Location: Northern Nevada's Truckee Meadows, at the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada.

Recreational activities are easy to find, as students can drive to the famed ski areas of Lake Tahoe and the historic Western realm of Virginia City all in one day.
