Honor Court < Information Kiosk > Jones Center
The Information Kiosk is located at one of the most historic points on the University campus. The University, founded in 1874 in Elko, Nev., as the state's first land-grant institution, was moved to this Reno site in 1885. The Information Kiosk contains information about campus parking and directions to various sites on campus. For many years, the site featured a 75-millimeter field cannon, which was located in the area of the Honor Court north of the kiosk. The cannon was donated to the University by John Mackay, Jr., (grandson of John Mackay of Comstock Lode fame) in the early 1940s. A gift to Clarence Mackay from the government of France, the cannon was used in World War I. It is now housed on Building and Grounds property on the north campus.
