The Center strongly encourages you to get involved with your student’s education at the University of Nevada, Reno. There are specific federal rules that limit the information we can give you about your student. The most supportive parent is an educated parent and we provide the following links for your information:
FERPA gives parents certain rights with respect to their children's education records. These rights transfer to the student when he or she reaches the age of 18 or attends a school beyond the high school level. Students to whom the rights have transferred are "eligible students." The goal of the Parents' Network is to connect parents and families with university developments and the campus community in an effort to support the academic success of students. From providing useful publications, such as the Parents' Handbook and Parents' Newsletter, to hosting special events like Southern Nevada Send-Off, Parents' Orientation and Parent & Family Weekend that bring parents onto campus, the Parents' Network aims to serve you. Twenty students and their parents are invited annually to participate in a program designed to assist parents in helping their student transition from high school to college. The workshop includes information on financial aid, academic expectations of college professors, academic and support services offered on campus and student activities. The program is delivered in Spanish with English translation available.

STAC Phase II:
Parents of participating students in the Start Thinking About College Phase I are invited informational sessions on applying for UNR, UNR minimum admissions requirements, financial aid, and college life in general. There are two sessions provided at the same time one in English and the other one in Spanish.
STAC Phase III:
Parents who participated in STAC Phase II are invited to participate in a campus tour with their family.
College 101 provides a comprehensive introduction to the University of Nevada, Reno for interested parents to assist them in preparing their students for an academic career after high school.
