College Life 101 Program
In addition to a computer lab, quiet study area and small lounge, the Center offers students custom-tailored support services to meet their individual needs. These services aim to create and support greater cultural diversity within the University. The program is open to underrepresented students from American Indian/Native American, African-American, Hispanic/ Latino, and Asian/Pacific Islander backgrounds, and to students who identify as multi-ethnic/ biracial. The program will also be made accessible to any UNR student in good academic standing who demonstrates a desire to participate in the program.
Prospective students are encouraged to join the program in their senior year of high school to address questions or difficulties that may arise as they apply for financial aid, housing, or other University services.
CL101 students are given priority when opportunities for internships, employment, leadership development and other programs and services (free printing) arise. The number of participants is limited to 150 college students and 35 high school seniors.
College Life 101 (CL101) offers:
- Dedicated multi-ethnic advisors who work as a team to provide comprehensive support services. Advisors work with students to choose and schedule appropriate classes, provide assistance in choosing a major field of study, and assist in the development of career goals by introducing students to practitioners in their prospective fields who come from similar underrepresented backgrounds.
- A welcoming, supportive atmosphere where barriers to student success (both real and perceived) can be discussed and overcome.
