ENDORSEMENT TO TEACH ENGLISH
AS A SECOND LANGUAGE
(Grade level appropriate to base license)
To receive an endorsement to teach English as a second language, a
person must have:
A. a valid elementary, secondary or special teaching license; and
B. have completed 12 semester hours of credit in the courses of study
listed below:
- Methods and materials for teaching English as a second
language;
- Theories for the acquisition of a second language;
- Testing and evaluation of pupils studying English as a second
language; or
- Developing a curriculum for pupils studying English as a
second language.

PROFESSIONAL ENDORSEMENT TO TEACH
ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE-TESL
To receive an endorsement as a professional teacher of English as a
second language, a person must have completed the all requirements for
an endorsement to teach English as a second language and:
A. Hold a master’s degree; and
B. Have 3 years of verified experience as a teacher; and
C. have the Endorsement in TESL.
