What We're Doing: Food
The University's Food Services is implementing many initiatives to help make our campus green. Food Services has added many locally produced items to their menus. They recycle their fryer shortening for biofuel production. They have partnered with the student group EnAct to compost food waste at the Main Station. Food Services also uses environmentally-friendly cleaning products.
What can you do?
- Know where your food comes from! Purchasing local products cuts down on transportation and supports your local economy.
- Buy organic when possible. Organic farming preserves the soil which is a known sink for carbon.
- Go tray-less in the cafeteria! Washing trays is a major source of electricity and water usage.
- Get a reusable water bottle/coffee mug to cut back on trash and save some money!
