The University's Food Services has made a commitment of 1% of the meal plan revenue to go towards funding sustainable initiatives on campus. They are in the pilot stage of a food composting project in conjunction with UNR student club, EnAct. Food Services also has an agreement in place to recycle fryer shortening with the local Bentley Biofuels group. Cardboard recycling bins have been placed in the dining halls and catering in addition to the glass and plastic recycling. Food Services is committed to adding locally produced products to their menu as well with a partnership with a local grower, Nevada Naturals.
