The Jacobs Foundation Veterans Scholarship Program
The Jacobs Foundation has made this scholarship available in recognition and appreciation of the service and sacrifice made by our veterans who have served in the Afghanistan/Iraq (OEF/OIF) theaters of war since September 11, 2001.
Scholarship Benefits: $5000 per year for 2 years to assist with living expenses for qualified and selected veterans.
Scholarship Eligibility:
- Recipients must be admitted to the University of Nevada, Reno.
- Entering freshmen students must possess a 3.00 cumulative High School GPA. Alternative criteria may be either a minimum ACT score of 25 or SAT score of 11.30.
- Entering transfer students must posses a 3.00 cumulative transfer GPA.
- Have served in the OEF/OIF theaters of war on active duty since September 11, 2001.
- Recipients must be enrolled for a minimum of 15 UNR credits per semester and earn a minimum of 12 UNR credits per semester to receive the scholarship.
Application procedure:
- Applicants must have submitted a completed application for admission to the University of Nevada, Reno along with high school transcripts. Transfer students must submit transcripts for all other colleges and universities attended, including community colleges.
- Complete the Jacobs Foundation Scholarship application and turn it into the UNR Financial Aid and Scholarship Office on the third floor of the Fitzgerald Student Services Building. - Transfer students must submit additional copies of their transcripts along with the application form.
- Attach a copy of your military record (DD214).
- Submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1st. A FAFSA application for 2008-2009 may be found at the FAFSA web site after January 1st.
Please note that all recipients who also received need-based Federal Financial Aid will be subject to federal over-award rules. You may still collect your Montgomery GI Bill benefits if awarded the Jacobs Foundation Veterans Scholarship.
