ASUN Programs & Services

What is ASUN?

As your undergraduate student government, the Associated Students of the University of Nevada (ASUN) is an integral part of the university community. ASUN is recognized by the University President and the Nevada System of Higher Education and its Board of Regents and provides many activities, events, services and a voice for students. For example, ASUN uses the profits from the ASUN Bookstore to offer more than $20,000 annually in scholarship monies, buy equipment for student use, and improve student facilities. All undergraduates who are enrolled in at least one credit hour at Nevada are automatically members of ASUN and are eligible to attend events and/or use services.

The ASUN Student Government is comprised of three branches - legislative, executive and judicial. Elected or appointed undergraduate students fill all positions. Elections are held each March for elected positions and appointments are made on an on-going basis throughout the year.

ASUN also has many programs and services that give back to the student body.   Student Activities administers these programs with direction from the student government within University and Nevada System of Higher Education policy and procedure.

For more information on any of the areas of student government mentioned, please visit our website at www.asun.unr.edu, call 784-6589, or visit our offices in the Joe Crowley Student Union, 3rd Floor.

Clubs and Organizations

There are over 220 recognized clubs and organizations here at the University. Student organizations play an important role in the success of students here on the campus. ASUN encourages you to check out the list below and get involved in at least one club this year.

Can’t find one you like? Any group of ten or more participants enrolled in seven (7) or more undergraduate credit hours may petition for ASUN recognition, which allows an organization to use campus facilities, get funding and establish an activities program. For more information call the Direcgtor of Clubs and Organizations at 784-6589 or email them at directorco@asun.unr.edu

For more information on joining a club or organization or to find out more information on a certain club please check out www.asun.unr.edu/club and email the current club president.

Legal Information and Referral Service

Undergraduate students have FREE access to legal information and referrals on most civil and criminal matters. The service is staffed by the ASUN Director of Legal Services (on campus) and a local attorney (off campus). In order to get legal information students must schedule an appointment with the Director of Legal Services. ASUN Legal Services may not give legal advice. Only a licensed attorney may give legal advice or draft legal documents. ASUN Legal Services is limited to activities of an informational nature only, and any request exceeding this limitation will be referred to appropriate legal counsel.

In most cases, the results of this process are a better understanding of the legal problem, some preliminary legal advice, and a referral to a local attorney who handles cases in the necessary legal area. Whenever possible, referrals are made to attorneys who have agreed to offer reduced and/or waived fees to UNR students who are referred by ASUN Legal Services.
