Student Leadership

The Nevada Concept of Leadership:

The practice of leadership is an ongoing process of self-discovery and building relationships with people together to achieve a common purpose through shared vision.

Our Vision:

The Center for Student Leadership will be recognized as a local, regional, and national contributor to and resource for academic and co-curricular programs, current theory, and research.

The Center's Mission:

The Center is a collaborative opportunity that enables all students (undergraduate and graduate) to find and develop their potential. We will develop and support a theoretical and practical approach to a definition of leadership lived out through academic and co-curricular programs in the community. We strive to implement inclusive values based programs that encourage a consciousness of self, relationship building, social change, and civic responsibility.

Our Students Will:

  1. Develop an understanding of the relationship (process) and dynamics of the self, the group, and the community.
  2. Facilitate an understanding that leadership is relational and episodic rather than just positional.
  3. Learn mentoring skills and the significance of effective role modeling.
  4. Create and implement an action plan based on individual values and goals.
  5. Create a portfolio to highlight their accomplishments and action plans.
  6. Develop an intention and awareness of diversity that fosters a consciousness of multiculturalism through leading and creating change together.
  7. Practice verbal and written presentation skills for future career competencies.
  8. Learn to integrate and apply their knowledge and experience through self-reflection.
  9. Develop leadership skills that will help them become successful, contributing members of the global community.
