A Proclamation by the Governor
Whereas , approximately one in five Americans – or 54 million people has a disability; and
Whereas, more than 37,500 adults and children in Nevada have disabilities; and
Whereas, today, society regards disabilities as a natural part of the human condition, and believes that those with disabilities are entitled to full inclusion in our communities; and
Whereas, the ability of people with disabilities to fulfill their aspirations and lead full and productive lives is limited only by the opportunities afforded them; and
Whereas, October is recognized nationally as Disability Awareness Month, and denotes a time and opportunity to recognize the skills, abilities and contributions of people with disabilities; and
Whereas, the State of Nevada is committed to providing support and services necessary to enhance the lives of people with disabilities,
NOW, THEREFORE, I, KENNY C. GUINN, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA , do hereby proclaim October of 2006 as
DISABILITY AWARENESS MONTH
