SERVICES

The Center for Student Cultural Diversity (The Center) at the University of Nevada, Reno, is unique within the Nevada System of Higher Education and serves as a comprehensive intercultural office providing outreach and recruitment, retention support services and cocurricular programming for prospective and continuing students. The Center serves all students, while placing specific emphasis on students that self-identify as African American, Asian American/Pacific Islander, American Indian and Hispanic/Latino. The Center also provides targeted services to students who self-identify as First-Generation (neither parent holds a four year college degree), Low-Income, Multiracial/Biracial and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Transgender (LGBT).

 

Outreach

  • Start Thinking About College (STAC) Program - a partnership with Washoe County School District which bring 1,000 eighth grade students from historcially underrepresented backgrounds to campus on an annual basis
  • Adopt-A-School Program - each Center Initiative adopts one local high school and guides a cohort of junior and senior student through the college application and financial aid process. Current partner schools include: Damonte Ranch High School, North Valleys High School, Reed High School and Wooster High School.
  • All Students College Educated in Nevada Today (ASCENT) Mentor Program - a partnership with Hug High School which pairs at-risk high school students with Universityh and community mentors
  • Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) Youth Leadership Summit
  • Hispanic Parent Student Program
  • Annual Hispanic Youth Leadership Summits
  • Native American Gear Up Youth Leadership Conference
  • Northern Nevada Youth Soccer Initiative - appproximately 800 elementary and junior high school soccer players come to campus to start off the season with a campus tour and a soccer tournament.
