The Pride Collaborative

Our Mission

The Pride Collaborative is a comprehensive program that supports the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and queer community and their allies through promoting acceptance and understanding here at the University of Nevada, Reno and in Northern Nevada. We work to accomplish the full inclusion of LGBTIQ people via curricular and co-curricular support to students, high school outreach, community service, providing a safe space, social interaction, political activism, and encouraging an overall queer-positive environment on campus and in the community at large.

Programming

The Pride Collaborative puts on events singularly or collaboratively throughout the year that supports our goals of encouraging equity for the LGBTIQ community. Samples of some of our past events are:

Safe Zone Training

Safe Zone is a program provides safe spaces that are highly visible and easily identifiable to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and queer (LGBTIQ) persons, where support and understanding is the key and where bigotry and discrimination are not tolerated. Safe Zone Trainings educates people on how to be supportive and inclusive of all people and in turn, how to become an effective "ally" to LGBTIQ people.

High School and Middle School Outreach

We work with the local high schools to not only establish but also provide support and guidance to local Gay-Straight Alliances. We provide direct mentoring to help guide them through their lives as LGBTIQ youth into becoming young adults.

Community Health Fair

Community groups have special medical and health concerns that are often not addressed adequately. The Community Health Fair brings together over 25 community and university health organizations in order to provide health information and services to LGBT and other minorities groups.
