Individual Counseling

Students may meet with a counselor on a one-on-one basis to work through concerns about self, feelings, thoughts, behaviors, and relationships that are problematic for them.

Group Counseling

Counseling in group offers a broad range of perspective, support, and relationships through interacting with peers and facilitators.  Group generally increases a sense of belongingness and connectedness with other individuals. Group Counseling also enhances learning about self and his/her problems in relation to others and their difficulties in a safe and mutually trusting environment.

Workshops and Outreach Programs

Counseling Services provide structured presentations and skills based workshops to promote coping strategies to deal with psychological distress on campus.  We also offer training seminars for students, faculty, and staff as requested.

Consultation

Consultation is available for students about themselves or their friends as well as for concerned faculty and staff.  Consultation topics often include distressing and distressed behaviors of peers, students in class, and students who you work with.

Referrals

Counseling Services makes appropriate referrals for those students who will be better helped by the other practitioners, specialists, departments and facilities, to solve their problems. Counselors assist connecting students to other professionals and resources both on and off campus.

Sexual Assault Prevention and Counseling (SAPAC) Program

SAPAC counselors offer a caring and empathetic support for a student who has been the victim of sexual assault.  The counselors will provide academic support and may be able to collaborate with academic departments if the student’s studies are suffering as a result of sexual assault. The counselor also can advocate for the student’s comfort and safety, which may or may not involve interacting with UNR Police.
