Mission of Counseling Services

The MISSION of Counseling Services (CS) is to professionally provide students with personal, psychological, mental health, and substance abuse services so that students may better define and accomplish personal and academic goals, and so that the institution may be better able to establish an effective learning-environment.

To accomplish this mission, the scope of CS includes:

  • Individual/couples/group counseling of a professional nature for students who may be experiencing psychological, behavioral, and/or learning difficulties;
  • Programming focused on the developmental needs of undergraduate and graduate students for the purpose of (a) maximizing student’ potential to benefit from the experience of the academic environment, and (b) promoting life-long learning and emotional health;
  • Training of potential professionals within the fields of mental health that constitute a multi-disciplinary service;
  • Consultative services both within the office and within the institution, for reasons of fostering an environment that supports the intellectual, emotional, consciousness, and physical development of students;
  • Assessment services that (a) identify students’ psychological needs on our campus, (b) track the needs and progress of students presenting for services, (c) track CS’s faculty/staff activities and services, (d) promote appropriate referrals, and (e) augment planning for future services and programs for CS.
