About Us
Counseling Services is an office within Student Success, which is a division of Student Services. We are concerned with issues facing the entire University community and provide services throughout the campus. We provide direct clinical services which include individual, couples, and group therapy. The staff also offers consultations, presentations, and workshops to campus organizations, academic departments, and other offices on campus. We engage in research activities, teach classes, and participate in University orientation programs.
As the primary facility on campus for addressing personal, psychological and substance abuse needs of both undergraduate and graduate students, Counseling Services is composed of a diverse group of professionals. We have eight psychologists, one social worker, two marriage and family therapists, two alcohol and drug counselors, one staff therapist, eight externs, two social work students, and two administrative staff. Our staff’s diversity is reflected in ethnicity, gender, theoretical orientation, and areas of expertise.
Counseling Services adheres to the highest standards of confidentiality and record-keeping as required by Nevada state law, HIPPA, and the ethical standards of the professionals practicing within our center.
Counseling Services is supported by the Mandatory Counseling Fee. If you are a full-time student at UNR, the $30.00 Mandatory Counseling Fee is assessed to your account each semester. If you take five credits or less, you may pay the $30.00 Mandatory Counseling Fee to use our services.
We are located on the second floor of the Thompson Building, room 202, across from the Jot Travis Student Union and adjacent to Getchell Library. Counseling Services also provides services through our satellite office at the Student Health Center.
