PSYCHIATRY SERVICES

Mental disorders and psychological problems are not uncommon in college students. The SHC contracts the services of a part-time psychiatrist and a psychiatry resident, who provide consultation to practitioners in the Student Health Center.

What services are provided?

• Diagnostic evaluations
• Monitoring of psychotropic medications

How do I get services?

• Referral from Student Health Center practitioner
• Referral from the Disability Resource Center
• Referral from the Counseling and Testing Center

Do I need an appointment?

• A pre-scheduled appointment is required

Is there a charge for this service?

• There is a charge for each session, $40 for hour sessions and $20 for half hour sessions

What if I need additional services?

• In emergency situations, students may be referred to local hospitals for initial evaluation and stabilization
• In some situations, long-term, ongoing psychiatric care may be arranged by referral to local community psychiatrists
• Counseling services may be provided by the SHC counselor, by the Counseling and Testing Center and by community counselors

If further evaluation and treatment are indicated, you can be referred to our psychiatry providers at the Student Health Center, to other UNR providers or to a local community provider.
