The Office of Service-Learning and Civic Engagement will be offering a free faculty development opportunity in late summer. The Service-Learning Scholars Workshop will be held on the UNR Campus August 18th through 20th from 9:00 am-3:00 pm on August 18th and from 9:00-11:30 am on August 19th-20th. The Faculty Scholars Workshop includes four morning training sessions, along with faculty mentoring and assistance.
The purpose of the Service-Learning Scholars Workshop is to build faculty capacity for academic service-learning. Service-learning is a pedagogy and teaching practice that joins academic course content with hands-on community service to enhance student learning while addressing a community issue. The workshop is designed to help remove the uncertainty and streamline the process for faculty who want to implement service-learning. The objective of the workshop and mentoring program is to provide the tools, skills and resources faculty need to successfully integrate service-learning into their courses. Learn how to integrate service-learning into syllabi, develop SLO's, facilitate reflection, find community placements and gain scholarship through service-learning.
