Martin Luther King Day of Service: October 2013- January 2014
The Office of Service-Learning and Civic Engagement is recruiting volunteers for an upcoming service-learning project. The project will take place in January and we will need a team of student volunteers to help plan and coordinate the project up until that point. The theme of the project is centered on a quote describing MLK Jr.: "During his lifetime, Dr. King sought to forge common ground on which people from all walks of life could join together as equals to address important community issues. Service, he realized, was the great equalizer. As MLK Jr. once said, 'Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.'"
The purpose of this project is to gain the perspective of community members about community service. We will be interviewing and photographing community members and then compiling quotes and photographs into a small exhibit either on campus or in the community. The exhibit will be presented during the end of January near the time of the MLK Day of Service.
There are two different positions, but we will need more than one student for each position. The first position is the Student Volunteer Project Leader. We are looking for two Project Leaders who will take leadership roles in planning the project. In addition, we are looking for 2-4 student volunteer Committee Members who will also be a part of the planning process. Please view the volunteer position descriptions here: Volunteer Project Lead and Volunteer Committee Member. If you are interested in being a part of this project, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org with a sentence or two about why you want to be a part of the project!
