About the SEC... WHAT IS THE STAFF EMPLOYEES' COUNCIL? The Staff Employees' Council represents all classified employees at the University of Nevada, Reno. The council also serves in an advisory capacity to the president of the university with respect to all matters of classified personnel administration and employee relations excepting matters of formal appeals and hearings. The council holds monthly meetings to provide a forum for employees' suggestions, questions, or complaints; and to provide a means for disseminating information to classified employees of the university. However, the council cannot be involved in individual appeals relating to disciplinary or classification matters. Council members are elected to a three-year
term by popular
vote. Each June, ballots are sent to all classified employees in
those divisions in which the SEC representative's term has COMMITTEE REPRESENTATION Classified employees are represented on
most university
committees through the appointment of SEC representatives
to the following university committees and boards: ASUN,
affirmative action, arboretum, child care, facilities planning
and management, faculty senate, food service, gender SEC members and other classified staff serve on council committees. These include: annual awards luncheon, open house, employee recognition, employee of the year, special interests, educational leave stipend, classified staff development fund, bylaws, web page and compensation. MEETINGS The council meets at 2:00 p.m. on the third Tuesday of every month. All meetings are open to everyone. There is usually a guest speaker at each meeting, speaking on a topic of current interest to classified staff. Each spring all classified staff are encouraged to attend a special "Open House" to discuss their concerns with any pertinent issue pertaining to classified staff. |
