Voile Print Dress: Contents

This voile print dress makes beautiful use of the fabric. The voile is a light weight cotton fabric, which means this dress was probably worn as a spring or summer frock and supported with many petticoats to obtain a rounded silhouette. Voile and voile prints were particularly popular in the early 1850s. The motif evokes a feeling of the popular paisley patterning which was extremely popular in the 1840s. Based on the condition of this garment, the dress was probably saved for better occasions.
