Striped Silk Dress: Other Details

The shoulder line continues to be dropped meaning that the shoulder seam drops over the top of the shoulder and angles slightly to the back and also extends over the shoulder edge onto the arm. The other ornamentation and construction detail which creates interest on the dress is the piping at the armscye, shoulder seams, curved back seams, waistline and around the neck edge. As was true to the fifties, the piping is done in the same fabric as the dress and helps to stabilize the seam, making the dress last longer.

The piped and finish neckline and width of the pagoda sleeve, open up the possibility that the look may have been completed with a separate collar and/or undersleeves.
