Woven Extension Skirt

In December of 1859, Godey's Lady's Book discussed "The Woven Extension Skirt". The noted "excellent feature" was the "impossibility of any ripping or tearing of the tapes, as they are woven in the springs, in looms constructed for that purpose. " The shape presented here retains the even distribution of width around the woman's body but begins to provide a little extra support in the back of the skirt.
