The Hoop
Skirt: Examples
As
you look at the following examples of crinolines, note that as the shape
of the skirt changes, the hoop also changes. The width of the lower edge
probably reached its heights 1857-1862. At this point, the designers were
flattening the front of the skirt and sweeping the fullness of the skirt
to the back. The hoops of 1865 have moved from the circular to an elliptical
in shape.
