Indestructible Parisian
Train Skirt
In addition to corsets, Thomson's also had a line of hoops. This example of the Indestructible Parisian Train Skirt can be seen at the Marjorie Russell Textile Center.
This design was patented in September 1858. The waist is adjustable. The square opening is in the front. The flexible steel framework of multiple hoops are joined by vertical bands of tape. The wearer is able to step into hoop through the square front opening fastening it over the corset. Lightweight petticoat would probably be worn over the cage to smooth the line of the skirt.
