Classic Frontier
Dress: Bodice

The dress of the bodice closes by hook and eye. This method of closure is associated with garment construction of the 1860s on through the turn of the century. The neckline is a soft rounded V, possibly for increased comfort. One will see that the V is repeated in the back yoke. Note front and back gathers with shape the bodice and fit into the wide waistband. The dress appears to fit at the natural waistline.

The
yokes, both front and back are lined with the flour sacking. This fabric
as support and structure would have taken a greater degree of wear. The
lower bodice is lined with matching fabric. Note that all the narrow seams
are completely encased. Again, this detail of construction would have increased
the wear and durability of the garment. The dropped shoulder seams, armscyes,
and waistband are all piped for strength. Such piping also adds an artistic
finish to the dress.
